The Unisa Documentation Centre for African Studies was established in with the aim of collecting historical and contemporary documents concerning the Black, Coloured and Indian communities in southern Africa.

Sincethe acquisition policy of the Documentation Centre has been broadened to include other groups in southern Africa. Access to the Archival collections is available free of charge to all researchers, local and international.

Archival material may be consulted only in the reading room of the Archives, on Level 2 of the Main Library. The Archival and Special collections contain a number of very valuable and unique resources. These resources are kept under archival conditions and are available to all researchers.
